We arranged service through Spectrum just prior to moving primarily because they could connect and install on our schedule (early November) prior to our move from out-of-state. On Christmas Eve, around 9:00 PM, our service was interrupted. No signal was coming into the house. We attempted the standard remedy of unplugging and repowering the equipment, to no avail. Contact with their tech support was only available by text, who wanted us to repeat the procedure (again, it did not work). Understandably, a technician was not available until 12/26 (and they did arrive promptly, and were extremely helpful!) when it was quickly determined that the original installation was faulty--and that we could have easily corrected the loose connection if they had suggested it! We had also experienced poor signal strength in certain areas of the house, and had visited their local office to acquire a ranger extender (their website claimed they were readily available) where I waited over half an hour to find out in less than 15 seconds that they did NOT keep any on hand and that they would have to ship one. We had to purchase our own extender due to immediate need. We elected to change service providers. We were disappointed to find that our monthly payment would not be pro-rated, and while the website indicated we could return their equipment at any Spectrum store, we were told we had to take it to a UPS location. We called Spectrum to disconnect, and when we finally got through no attempt at retention was offered and the rep was unable to send an email confirming the disconnect. We did receive an automated email the next day instructing us to RETURN THE EQUIPMENT THAT WE HAD ALREADY RETURNED AND CONFIRMED WITH THEM! I called them to verify (again) that we had returned it; the rep kept interrupting me AND ACCUSING ME OF INTERRUPTING HIM! I finally got him to say that their records showed we had none of their equipment. All in all, disappointing and not recommendable in the least.

Spectrum has been a fantastic alternative to AT&T both in service and price, but ESPECIALLY in the customer service realm. I can speak to a live person within seconds and they always answer calls from a USA-based call center with people whom I can clearly hear and understand. They almost always solve the problem right away and if they can't they do what it takes to get it solved another way. Strongly recommend Spectrum for internet service.

Methodology

HighSpeedInternet.com compares internet providers within cities and metro areas to give customers the most relevant insights into their internet options. When comparing providers, we consider the following:

  • Provider coverage areas
  • Advertised speeds
  • Real-world speeds (speed test data)
  • Customer feedback
  • Other relevant localized data

We source localized coverage data displayed on our coverage maps from the FCC coverage database, which is updated every six months. For the most current summary of providers in your area, we recommend you use our zip code search tool, which offers the most recent coverage data straight from internet service providers (ISPs).

Our city overviews compare advertised provider speeds. We may also include real-world speed data gathered from millions of annual speed test results. To process our speed test data, we first filter out outliers and providers with low test counts. We then calculate speed averages with every ISP subject to the same parameters.

We gather ISP customer feedback data from our comprehensive annual surveys and direct customer feedback submitted to HighSpeedInternet.com. Unless stated otherwise, average ratings are calculated nationally.
