Available across wide swathes of the Midwest and West, GigFire (formerly LTD Broadband) is a great choice if you live in a rural area and don’t have any other way to get fast and reliable internet. The provider’s fiber plans deliver fast, symmetrical speeds and don’t break the bank on price. Its fixed wireless service gets you a reliable connection and unlimited data.

GigFire’s speeds: What’s best for you?
If you’re getting a fiber internet plan, the speed you should get is 300Mbps. That speed gives you a lot of bandwidth to support 4K streaming, downloading, and video calls for multiple users without requiring you to go overboard on an expensive bill.
GigFire’s fixed wireless speeds are much slower than its fiber speeds, so if you can only get a fixed wireless connection, we recommend springing for the 35Mbps plan. It’s the most expensive fixed wireless option, but you get as much bandwidth as possible—and every megabit counts when relying on a cellular connection in a rural area.
GigFire’s data caps
GigFire doesn’t have data caps for its internet plans. Feel free to stream and game as you like since you don’t have to worry about overage charges or throttled speeds.

Fiber internet isn’t always available in GigFire’s service areas. If you live in a part of the country where you can only get its fixed wireless service, then definitely spring for GigFire’s Fixed Wireless Home Office 35Mbps plan. Although this is GigFire’s priciest fixed wireless option, it offers a lot of value. You’ll get the fastest speeds possible along with unlimited data—a rare commodity on rural fixed wireless networks.

GigFire goes easy on the extra fees. You don’t have to sign up for an annual contract, so there’s no early termination fee if you cancel your service early. You also don’t have to pay for a router since a whole-home mesh Wi-Fi system comes included with your plan. The only thing you have to pay for is installation, which costs a somewhat steep $99.
GigFire internet installation, equipment, and contracts
When you sign up for GigFire, you’ll need to schedule a technician to come to your house to set up your internet. Installation costs $99, but your bill includes the cost of equipment, and you don’t have to sign an annual contract.
GigFire installation and equipment
GigFire’s fixed wireless service operates using a dish that connects to a cellular network, and the tech will need to install the dish on your house. The tech can also set up the mesh router system that works with your service, which ensures you get a Wi-Fi signal throughout your home.
Fiber internet doesn’t use a dish, but you still need a fiber drop and an optical network terminal to get a fiber internet setup working properly. GigFire’s tech can handle all these installations and also set up your router to get the Wi-Fi flowing.
GigFire internet contracts
You don’t have to sign any annual contracts when you get a plan with GigFire. You can cancel at any time, and according to GigFire’s website, your bill is prorated
GigFire internet customer ratings
Our annual customer satisfaction survey didn’t feature GigFire, and the relatively small-scale provider doesn’t receive ratings from other major customer-ranking sites like J.D. Power. However, you can find reviews of GigFire online. It gets a 3.15 out of 5 ranking at the Better Business Bureau, with several users reporting frequent outages and unreliable service.

While GigFire has decent prices and fast fiber speeds, it still can’t compete with major fiber providers like CenturyLink. Compared to GigFire, CenturyLink gets you gigabit speeds for a lower price—and gets you installation for free as well. Also, we recommend CenturyLink’s DSL service over the fixed wireless connection from GigFire. Neither DSL nor fixed wireless are particularly fast or cost-effective, but DSL is just a bit faster and notably less expensive.

Like CenturyLink, AT&T’s fiber service beats GigFire for price and perks. You can get fast speeds for a lower price from AT&T—however, it’s not likely you can get fiber from AT&T in the rural areas where GigFire has set up fiber networks.
AT&T has a fixed wireless plan, but stick with GigFire if you’re going that route. While AT&T’s fixed wireless has strict data caps and high prices, GigFire gets you more bang for your buck and doesn’t hit you with any data restrictions.

Rise Broadband is a major player in nationwide fixed wireless service, and edges out GigFire for pricing and speeds. While GigFire’s fastest fixed wireless plan tops out at 35Mbps, Rise’s fastest plan hits 50Mbps. You can also get an unlimited-data plan with those speeds for just $65 a month, which is almost half the price of GigFire’s fastest fixed wireless plan.
Is GigFire internet right for you?
GigFire is right for you if you value the quiet and space of the country but need fast Wi-Fi for work and entertainment. Its prices can be high for the faster plans, but you don’t have to pay extra for equipment, and you can get a discount on a fixed wireless plan by paying for 12 months upfront. All in all, this is a solid internet provider with a lot of attractive options to choose from.
