LTD Broadband’s speeds: What’s best for you?

If you’re getting a fiber internet plan, the speed you should get is 300Mbps. That speed gives you a lot of bandwidth to support 4K streaming, downloading, and video calls for multiple users without requiring you to go overboard on an expensive bill.

LTD’s fixed wireless speeds are much slower than its fiber speeds, so if you can only get a fixed wireless connection, we recommend springing for the 35Mbps plan. It’s the most expensive fixed wireless option, but you get as much bandwidth as possible—and every megabit counts when relying on a cellular connection in a rural area.

LTD Broadband’s data caps

LTD Broadband doesn’t have data caps for its internet plans. Feel free to stream and game as you like since you don’t have to worry about overage charges or throttled speeds.

Our favorite plan: LTD’s Rural Fiber 300Mbps plan gives you lots of bandwidth for a competitive price. You can’t beat the extremely reliable connectivity of fiber, and this plan’s symmetrical download and upload speeds are a big plus.

Fiber internet isn’t always available in LTD’s service areas. If you live in a part of the country where you can only get its fixed wireless service, then definitely spring for LTD’s Fixed Wireless Home Office 35Mbps plan. Although this is LTD’s priciest fixed wireless option, it offers a lot of value. You’ll get the fastest speeds possible along with unlimited data—a rare commodity on rural fixed wireless networks.

LTD Broadband internet fees

LTD goes easy on the extra fees. You don’t have to sign up for an annual contract, so there’s no early termination fee if you cancel your service early. You also don’t have to pay for a router since a whole-home mesh Wi-Fi system comes included with your plan. The only thing you have to pay for is installation, which costs a somewhat steep $99.

LTD Broadband internet installation, equipment, and contracts

When you sign up for LTD Broadband, you’ll need to schedule a technician to come to your house to set up your internet. Installation costs $99, but your bill includes the cost of equipment and you don’t have to sign an annual contract.

LTD Broadband installation and equipment

LTD’s fixed wireless service operates using a dish that connects to a cellular network, and the tech will need to install the dish on your house. The tech can also set up the mesh router system that works with your service, which ensures you get a Wi-Fi signal throughout your home.

Fiber internet doesn’t use a dish, but you still need a fiber drop and an optical network terminal to get a fiber internet setup working properly. LTD’s tech can handle all these installations and also set up your router to get the Wi-Fi flowing.

LTD Broadband internet contracts

You don’t have to sign any annual contracts when you get a plan with LTD Broadband. You can cancel at any time, and according to LTD’s website, your bill is prorated

LTD Broadband internet customer ratings

Our annual customer satisfaction survey didn’t feature LTD Broadband, and the relatively small-scale provider doesn’t receive ratings from other major customer-ranking sites like J.D. Power. However, you can find reviews of LTD online. It gets a 3.15 out of 5 ranking at the Better Business Bureau, with several users reporting frequent outages and unreliable service.

On the other hand, our own customer reviews section has positive customer feedback, with multiple customers giving LTD particular credit for its customer service.

LTD Broadband vs. CenturyLink

GigFire $70.00–$120.00/mo.10–1,000MbpsFiber, fixed wirelessShop LTD Broadband Plans

While LTD Broadband has decent prices and fast fiber speeds, it still can’t compete with major fiber providers like CenturyLink. Compared to LTD, CenturyLink gets you gigabit speeds for a lower price—and gets you installation for free as well. Also, we recommend CenturyLink’s DSL service over the fixed wireless connection from LTD Broadband. Neither DSL nor fixed wireless are particularly fast or cost effective, but DSL is just a bit faster and notably less expensive.

LTD Broadband vs. AT&T

ProviderPricesSpeedsConnection typeOrder online
$55–$180/mo.*25–5,000MbpsFiber, DSL, fixed wireless
GigFire $70–$120/mo.10–1,000MbpsFiber, fixed wirelessShop Plans

Like CenturyLink, AT&T’s fiber service beats LTD Broadband for price and perks. You can get fast speeds for a lower price from AT&T—however, it’s not likely you can get fiber from AT&T in the rural areas where LTD has set up fiber networks.

AT&T has a fixed wireless plan, but stick with LTD Broadband if you’re going that route. While AT&T’s fixed wireless has strict data caps and high prices, LTD Broadband gets you more bang for your buck and doesn’t hit you with any data restrictions.

LTD Broadband vs. Rise Broadband

ProviderPricesSpeedsConnection typeOrder online
Rise Broadband $25–$65/mo.*25–50MbpsFixed wirelessShop Plans
GigFire $70–$120/mo.10–1,000MbpsFiber, fixed wirelessShop Plans

Rise Broadband is a major player in nationwide fixed wireless service, and edges out LTD Broadband for pricing and speeds. While LTD’s fastest fixed wireless plan tops out at 35Mbps, Rise’s fastest plan hits 50Mbps. You can also get an unlimited-data plan with those speeds for just $65 a month, which is almost half the price of LTD’s fastest fixed wireless plan.

Is LTD Broadband internet right for you?

LTD Broadband is right for you if you value the quiet and space of the country but need fast Wi-Fi for work and entertainment. Its prices can be high for the faster plans, but you don’t have to pay extra for equipment, and you can get a discount on a fixed wireless plan by paying for 12 months upfront. All in all, this is a solid internet provider with a lot of attractive options to choose from.
