Every State’s Favorite Store for Cyber Monday Deals

Black Friday will always be the original ode to holiday megashopping, but Cyber Monday is really where the money’s at these days. These two shopping celebrations have essentially merged into one enormous frenzy. Yearly sales numbers continue to set new records, with 2017 hitting the books with an astounding $3.36 billion in e-commerce spending by 81 million people.
But which stores get the biggest piece of that pie? To answer that, we used Google Trends to find the most popular brands and retailers of last year and broke those rankings down by state. Here are some of our most fascinating finds!
New York and West Virginia: Big Apple, Big Shoppers
New York and West Virginia are the only two states that have ties for their favorite stores—and they tied hard. New York has a six-way tie among Adidas, Apple, Gap, Macy’s, Nike, and Sephora. West Virginia has a five-way tie among eBay, J. C. Penney, Toys R Us, Ulta Beauty, and Victoria’s Secret. We figured New Yorkers would love shopping, but West Virginia’s enthusiasm is a bit more surprising.
Pennsylvania bids a sad farewell to Geoffrey.
Pour one out for Geoffrey, the Toys R Us giraffe. Once the greatest toy store in the US, Toys R Us closed all its US stores this year. It was Pennsylvania’s favorite last year, and it was also part of West Virginia’s five-way tie.
But where will these states turn for toys this Cyber Monday? Well, West Virginia seems to have plenty of options, but Pennsylvanians might find themselves at Walmart this year—unless they’re lucky enough to live near one of the 600 Kroger-owned stores featuring Geoffrey’s Toy Box this holiday season.
Get a piece of that Apple pie.
Amazon dominates other retailers like it dominates Cyber Monday. But as far as Google is concerned, Amazon tied for second place with Best Buy and Samsung, each claiming six states. So, who took the number-one spot? Surprise, surprise—it was Apple. The Cupertino-based company was the most popular Cyber Monday search in seven states. And with the launch of another round of cutting-edge Apple products, we expect that number to only increase.
Tech is so hot right now.
Technology, and especially Apple technology, is so cool it’s hot. We don’t see this year being much different: like we said, Apple recently released a ton of new products, including (finally) a refreshed MacBook Air with a Retina Display. If you’re looking to update your tech, you’re going to have a great holiday.
Will you be joining the legions of raving Apple fans this year? Or will you spend the day mourning the loss of Geoffrey’s glory days? Follow us on Facebook or Twitter, and let us know!
