How Much Could You Save With Pay-As-You-Go Internet From Sparklight?

New plans cost less and let you skip the contract, deposit, and credit check

Sparklight is offering pay-as-you-go internet that lets you skip credit checks, deposits, and recurring billing.

Every plan comes with unlimited data, and you get four speed options. Professional installation and Wi-Fi equipment are included, while supplies last.

The plans first showed up on Oct. 1, 2024, in the Google Play store. Then, they were announced during an investor call on Nov. 7, 2024, and arrived later as purchase options for shoppers on Sparklight.com.

The plans are tailored for customers who seek flexibility, so they have no long-term commitments, contracts, or extra fees, said Julie Laulis, Chief Executive Officer of Cable One (which owns Sparklight). She added that the plans are part of a pilot program and told investors to expect changes based on early results.

The offering is available in the following states:

  • Oregon
  • Idaho
  • Montana
  • North Dakota
  • Minnesota
  • Kansas
  • Missouri
  • Oklahoma
  • Arizona
  • New Mexico
  • Texas
  • Mississippi

The upfront fee for 30 days of Sparklight’s Pay-As-You-Go plans starts at $35. Autopay isn’t required, but you can set it up if you don’t want to worry about signing up again every month.

Pay As You Go 300 $45.00/mo.300Mbps10Mbps

There are two ways to get the plan. The easiest is to use the mobile app, available on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

The second way is to sign up online. When you get to the Sparklight site and enter your address, you’ll first see a list of standard plans. To see the new plans, scroll down until you see the Pay-As-You-Go Internet heading and click Check Availability. After you re-enter your address, you’ll see what’s available.

How pay-as-you-go plans compare

The new plans from Sparklight are better than standard plans in multiple ways:

  • No credit checks or deposits
  • No recurring billing required
  • Lower prices for comparable speeds
  • Included Wi-Fi equipment (standard customers pay $14/mo.)
  • Included professional installation (standard customers pay $90)
  • No required deposit (standard customers pay $25)
  • No activation fee (standard customers pay $30)

All plans come with unlimited data (both standard and pay-as-you-go), but you may face slowdowns if you exceed 5TB per month.

Standard plans from Sparklight

PlanStarting priceMax download speedMax upload speed
Freedom Connect 100 $39.95/mo.*100Mbps10Mbps
Freedom Connect 300 $39.95/mo.300Mbps10Mbps
Freedom Connect 600 $54.95/mo.500Mbps40Mbps
Freedom Connect Gig $75.00/mo.#100Mbps50Mbps

So why choose a standard Sparklight plan? Because with a Pay-As-You-Go plan, there’s no guarantee of service month after month, and you don’t know how or if prices could change in the future.

Can I get pay-as-you-go internet from other providers?

Sparklight is not alone in offering pay-as-you-go internet. NOW plans from Xfinity offer similar plans in two speed ranges.

PlanStarting priceMax download speed
NOW 100Mbps $30.00/mo.100Mbps
Now200Mbps $45.00/mo.200Mbps

Like Sparklight, Xfinity NOW offers free equipment and unlimited data, but prices are subject to increase at any time.

Is pay-as-you-go internet the same as prepaid internet?

No, pay-as-you-go internet is slightly different from standard prepaid plans because with pay-as-you-go, you don’t have to pay deposits or undergo credit checks, but you have to re-up every month. In comparison, some standard plans are billed before service starts, and others are billed after service is received. In most cases, you won’t have the option to either prepay or pay later. You just have to fit into the provider’s existing system.

Luckily, most providers have stopped requiring long-term contracts with standard internet plans. That means early cancellation fees are rare, but you should read your broadband nutrition label during checkout just to make sure. Pay-as-you-go plans never have cancellation fees.

Learn more about what you really pay with each provider so you don’t have to rely on advertised prices alone.
