Pittsburgh Residential Internet Coverage

As one of the largest cities in Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh is home to several local and national internet service providers.

Fiber internet is available through Verizon Fios, which currently brings service to all of Pittsburgh except part of Marshall and West Oakland.

This is nearly identical to the Verizon service map, which covers West Oakland but still does not bring service to Marshall.

Windstream currently has a fairly limited service area in Pittsburgh, starting south of Southside Flats and reaching as far south as Hays and Brookline. Service reaches as far west as Beechview.

Through Xfinity, almost every home and business in Pittsburgh benefits from access to high-speed internet. The only neighborhoods that fall outside of the service area are Perry South and part of Squirrel Hill.

Megapath has a far-reaching service area that runs as far west as Fairywood and Wing Gap. The service map reaches the eastern communities of Homewood North and East Hills. Far northern neighborhoods like Perry North and Summer Hill are within this large service area, as are southern neighborhoods like Overbrook and Carrick.

Provider Level 3 Communications has a large service area that covers several parts of Pittsburgh, although service stops short of Perry South in the north and Esplen in the west. Coverage stops just outside of Mount Oliver in the south and Swisshelm Park in the east.

Currently, Cogent Communication offers service to a narrow strip of central Pittsburgh, including the Central Business District, Crawford Roberts, and Bedford Dwellings.

And last, covering all of the major neighborhoods of Pittsburgh, TOAST.net makes high-speed internet widely available.

Cable:

Cable provides internet speeds faster than DSL through the same cables used for cable TV.

Probably the worst company I have ever worked with. Such a rip off. And you canā€™t get ahold of anyone to discuss an issue. If uou have another cable carrier in your community please choose them

Noticed a charge on my account for $240 dollars, contacted xfinity and was told that the promotional price expired. Agent I chatted with set me up with a new promotional price that was $20 more a month which was fine and said that the $240 was going to be refunded. Fast forward two weeks there was no refund, i conctacted xfinity again and 5 agents left the chat without helping me after telling me they are looking into it but then just left the chat without saying a word. Finally i got a call back and apparently a bill in February was no paid through autopay because my card was compromised and i was sent a new one but i didnt realize that the bill was not paid and i didnt get any notice which i own that i should have checked. In May was the $240 dollar charge which i was told that it was for current month and past due balance, which is fine. Messed up part is the agent that told me the promotional proce expired, lied because i still had two years on that promotional price and instead set me up with new contract that is now $20/month more. While on the phone with them i set up service with Verizon and will be cancelling my Xfinity service. The other thing thag agent did was offer me cellphone service which i said i have device payments with my current provider and and happy and been with then for 10+ years so i will not be switching. She said that she will secure that offer for 14 days in case i change my mind which is whatever; fine. About 3 days after i get a notice that my billing for Xfinity mobile has started and to activate my devices. Horrible experience, will never do any business with Xfinity ever again.

Verizon's service and speed are pretty good. The only time I didn't have the internet is when we had a bad storm and the power went out. Every once in a while it might get a little slow for a little bit. But, that might be because I have several gadgets connected, too. But, over all I've been pretty happy with the service and speed. Now the price on the other hand seems a little expensive to me. But, in all actuality its pretty comparable to other services out there for the service and speed.

I've had Verizon Fios for several years and I've been pretty happy with it. Although, I think all cable in general is expensive. I have the cable, phone and internet bundle. It was nice at first when the price was decent. But, every bill I get it goes up a little. And, over the past several years that adds up. I don't even have any of the prime movie channels and its still expensive. But, other than the price, I've been pretty happy.

We've been fairly happy with Verizon Fios. The internet speed is very fast, and it rarely ever goes out.
