What to look for in a mobile and internet bundle

We’re all about fast connectivity around here, so we judge mobile and internet bundles based on speed and low prices. To make our list, every bundle had to have the following:

  • Home internet speeds fast enough to support an average family (at least 250Mbps)
  • Home internet prices of $55 per month (or less)
  • A mobile plan with unlimited data
  • A discount for choosing both services from one provider

Xfinity internet and mobile bundles

Best Xfinity Bundle

Xfinity

300 Mbps + Unlimited

$40/mo.*

  • Internet: Speeds up to 400Mbps
  • Mobile: One line with unlimited talk, text, and 20GB priority data

✓ Free access to millions of Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots

✓ Unlimited 3G mobile hotspot data

✘ Limited selection of mobile plans

View Plans for Xfinity

Access to Xfinity Mobile is exclusive to Xfinity Internet customers, and comes with some of the best rates you’ll find anywhere. It piggybacks on Verizon’s cellular network, so you get reliable 5G and 4G LTE access from almost anywhere. You also get access to Xfinity’s massive network of Wi-Fi hotspots, and that means you can save on mobile data while enjoying speedy and secure internet.

The best Xfinity bundle is the Connect More internet plan, which comes with download speeds up to 400Mbps. Add an Unlimited phone line, and you get the biggest discounts when you have four lines per account.

Xfinity Mobile also offers By the Gig phone plans measured by the amount of premium data you get per month. They’re cheaper up-front, and great if you’re on Wi-Fi most of the time (and you probably will be). But there’s a $15-per-GB charge after you exceed your cap.

Optimum internet and mobile bundles

Best Optimum Bundle

Optimum

500 Mbps Internet + Unlimited Mobile

$50.00/mo.

  • Internet: Speeds up to 500Mbps
  • Mobile: One line with unlimited talk, text, and 20GB priority data

✓ Nationwide 5G access

✓ 5GB of priority hotspot data per line

✘ Confusing pricing, with mobile plans billed separately

View Plans for Optimum

Optimum Mobile works over T-Mobile’s network, giving you 5G access and unlimited data. You get a $15 break on your monthly bill just by bundling your internet with Optimum Mobile. That’s on top of bargain pricing for home internet (for the first year). You can also get price breaks if you add more lines, and you have lots of opportunities to mix and match with bonus data.

There’s a downside, though. You get a $20 penalty per line per month if you drop Optimum internet. And if you drop mobile, you’ll lose your $15 monthly discount on internet. Keep the bundle, though, and you’ll enjoy low pricing without the stress.

We like the Unlimited plan because it comes with dedicated hotspot data—which you don’t always get from internet provider phone plans like these. You could instead get a plan that comes with 1GB or 3GB of mobile data, however, these plans don’t include hotspot data (and we don’t think they’re a great deal for most people).

Spectrum internet and mobile bundles

Best Spectrum Bundle

Spectrum

Internet Premier + Unlimited

$50/mo.

  • Internet: Speeds up to 500Mbps
  • Mobile: One line with unlimited talk, text, and 30GB priority data

✓ Free speed boost when connected to Spectrum Wi-Fi

✓ 5GB of priority hotspot data

✘ Data speed throttling after you exceed certain limits

View Plans for Spectrum

Spectrum Mobile plans are similar to what you get from Xfinity Mobile. Both carriers use Verizon’s network, provide 5G access, and have decent pricing for basic cellular plans. Spectrum offers one unlimited line for 12 months. After that, the line will cost $30 per month.

You have the option to upgrade to an Unlimited Plus plan, which gives you more premium data each month. Also, you pay less per line when you add more lines to your plan.

The By the Gig plans look cheap, but if you exceed your 1GB data cap, you pay an extra $5 for each additional gigabyte of data you use. If you use more than 5GB in a month, your speeds slow to a snail’s pace.

Cox internet and mobile bundles

Best Cox Bundle

Cox Communications

Gig Unlimited + Go Even Faster

$120.01/mo.**

  • Internet: Speeds up to 500Mbps
  • Mobile: One line with unlimited talk, text, and 20GB priority data

✓ $14.99 monthly discount on internet when you add Cox mobile

✓ Free unlimited internet data with Cox Mobile and plans of at least 500Mbps

✘ Big price increases after two years of service

View Plans for Cox Communications

Like the other big cable internet players, Cox uses Verizon’s network to offer services via Cox Mobile. You get stellar mobile coverage, with prices starting at $45 per month for Unlimited lines. Each Unlimited line comes with 20GB of priority data per month and unlimited texting and calling in the U.S.

Pay as you Gig lines cost $15 per GB per month, but it may not be a good deal. We recommend this plan only if you know you’ll be on Wi-Fi most of the time.

With either Pay as you Gig or Unlimited mobile plans, you may qualify for a $50 gift card when you sign up, and you could be eligible for deals on devices. Taxes and fees cost extra on all plans, and you will have to pay even more if you want to make international calls. You may also pay a lot more after two years of service, even if you bundle.

AT&T internet and mobile bundles

Best AT&T Bundle

AT&T Value Plus℠ VL + Internet 1 GIG

$114.99/mo.§

  • Internet: Speeds up to 1,000Mbps
  • Mobile: One line with unlimited talk, text, and standard data

✓ Standard-definition streaming

✓ Free app that blocks spam calls

✘ Mobile speeds deprioritized if network is congested

AT&T offers both cell service and fast home internet service. Whether you have AT&T Fiber or AT&T Air, you can get 20% when you bundle with an unlimited mobile phone plan.

The service is solid, but prices are a little high. With our recommended Value plan, you don’t get any hotspot data but you will enjoy unlimited standard mobile data on your smartphone.

AT&T has the widest 4G LTE network in the U.S., meaning you can connect in rural areas where 5G networks from Verizon and T-Mobile may not have signal. You also get great deals on new phones, and you can mix and match family plans so everyone gets the right amount of data

Take a look at our comprehensive guide to AT&T mobile and internet bundles.

Verizon Wireless vs. AT&T Wireless: How do they compare?

AT&T’s flagship phone plans are slightly less expensive than Verizon’s. They don’t have all the perks, but they still pack a punch with lots of data, extra data for hotspotting, and excellent cellular coverage. Both give their mobile customers first priority on their respective mobile networks—no need to worry about getting bumped to the back of the line like you might be with an MVNO carrier.

Read our Verizon Wireless vs. AT&T Wireless guide for a breakdown of how the two cell carriers compare on price, coverage, and data.

✘ High prices when you factor in taxes and fees

Verizon offers some of the best mobile coverage you can get, plus home internet on either its fiber network or its fixed wireless 5G/4G LTE network. When you combine internet and mobile, your customer loyalty is rewarded with various deals and discounts.

Verizon’s phone plans cost more than other providers in this guide, but you get more premium data and better cell service. You also get dedicated mobile hotspot data and tons of extra perks, including free satellite text messaging if you can’t get a good mobile signal.

When you bundle mobile and internet with Verizon, you get a $15 discount on internet service. The discount is automatic if you’re a fixed wireless customer, but you have to ask for it if you’re a fiber internet customer. It’s easiest if you sign up for mobile phone service first.

T-Mobile internet and mobile bundles

Best T-Mobile Bundle

T-Mobile Home Internet

Rely Home Internet + Experience More

$135/mo.#

  • Internet: Speeds of 133–415Mbps
  • Mobile: Unlimited talk, text, & data. Nationwide coverage.

✓ 60GB priority hotspot data

✓ Best 5G coverage in the nation

✘ Weaker coverage in rural areas

T-Mobile is best known as the cellular “un-carrier,” of course, but its 5G home internet service means T-Mobile is now offering home internet too.

This fixed wireless internet setup gives you solid speeds and unlimited data for a great price, and you get a $15 discount on your monthly internet bill when you order it along with a mobile plan.

Experience More comes with unlimited premium data at 4G LTE and 5G speeds on the best 5G network in the industry. T-Mobile’s other phone plans are solid too—and a lot more affordable. Add additional lines, and you’ll save even more per line.

How to bundle mobile and internet service

If you’ve done your research and decided to go with your internet provider for mobile phone service, signing up is usually pretty simple.

The process varies based on which provider you have, but look for options to add mobile service in your internet provider’s mobile app. If your provider has stores, you can also get help there.

Once you’re signed up, you will need to connect your devices using either E-SIM technology or a physical SIM card. You may also need to download a separate mobile app to manage your new mobile account, and you may be billed for it separately from your internet bill.

I recommend keeping an eye on both bills (if they are separate) to make sure you aren’t paying for anything you don’t need or want. Then, consider shopping for both internet and mobile phone service about once a year to make sure you’re getting the best possible deal.
