Is Roblox Down?

How to troubleshoot a Roblox outage and get back to your gaming experience

Whether you (or your kid) are a noob or a longtime Creator, you’re going to need an internet connection to play Roblox. And if Roblox is down or your internet isn’t working, that means you’re going to be bloxxed and very salty because you can’t play games or chat at all.

Although Roblox is down on occasion, most of the time, the culprit for an outage will be your device or your internet connection. Below you can find a simple rundown of how to figure out what is causing your Roblox outage—and how to get your experience and voice chats back up and running.

See if Roblox is down

Roblox is a cross-play multiplayer game, so it depends on login and matchmaking services provided by Roblox.

If you’re having trouble logging in, the first thing you can do is confirm whether the core Roblox services are down, like account logins. The quickest way is to check the Roblox Status page. You’ll find a green banner labeled “All Systems Operational” if things are working as they should. Plus, you can scroll to the bottom of the page to find known incident histories.

If you didn’t find what you needed there, ask your friends or look on platforms like Reddit and Instagram to see if anyone else is complaining about having trouble getting into the Robloxverse. It has millions of users every day, so they’re bound to make noise.

Some Roblox applications depend on third-party networks

If the core Roblox services are online, but you still can’t play, the next step is to determine if the platform you’re using has an outage (it’s rate but happens). Here are the networks that support Roblox:

So, even though Roblox manages 24 data centers across the globe, Roblox data must go through these networks before it’s received by the Roblox servers. If these networks are down (which is rare), you can’t log in to Roblox even if your internet connection is up and running perfectly.

That said, before you troubleshoot your home network and devices, check the Roblox services and the platforms you use for possible outages.

Troubleshoot the Roblox app and your devices

Let’s say that Roblox is online. Well, that means you have a problem somewhere on your end. A poor Wi-Fi connection could be causing slow loading times, or your game could require an update to allow you to reconnect with online servers.

To quickly weed out the problem, do the following:

1  Turn your device off and back on.

2  Forget the Wi-Fi network and reconnect.

3  Check for available Roblox software updates.

4  Check for available operating system updates for your device.

5  Uninstall and reinstall the game.

6  Move to a room with better Wi-Fi (mobile only).

7  Connect your device with an Ethernet cable (wired only).

Run a test to see if your internet is down

When everybody’s internet is down on every device in the same place, that means the internet is out at your location. There could be any number of reasons why the internet is out, but usually, you can fix it simply by performing some maintenance on your router. If your internet is online but unreasonably slow, you’ll want to do a deeper dive into the health of your home network.

Pro tip:

Fixing a bad internet connection is slightly complicated. If you’re a kid, ask your parents or an older sibling for help.

How to fix your home internet connection to play Roblox:

  • Disconnect and reconnect the modem’s power.
  • Disconnect and reconnect the router’s power.
  • Make sure all cables are plugged in tightly between your modem, router, and your devices.
  • Close excess apps and browser windows.
  • Move the router to a more centralized location in your home, if possible.
  • Call your internet provider to see if the network is down.

Upgrade your internet if it’s too slow or unreliable

If you’re getting the internet speeds you pay for and still experiencing issues, your internet could be too slow or outdated to handle all of the user-generated experiences on Roblox. Consider upgrading your home’s internet connection—or talk to your parents about an upgrade—if you find that your internet is cutting out regularly and keeping you from your fellow Robloxians.

Fiber internet from a provider like Google Fiber or Quantum Fiber is your best bet for creating the smoothest and most reliable Roblox experience day in and day out. But a cable or 5G home internet connection will also work just fine.

High-speed internet makes Roblox even more fun!
