Is UPS Down?
How to troubleshoot a UPS website outage and get back to tracking your package

Home Networking, How-To, Internet Outage

I order a lot of stuff online, so I know how frustrating it can be when you want to look up the status of an incoming package only to find that tracking on the UPS website is down or the entire website isn’t working. I watch my tracking like a hawk, and I get stressed if I can’t keep tabs on it!
Unfortunately, the UPS network experiences enough technical issues and service delays that it has a dedicated Service Alerts page to keep customers updated. However, it could be just as likely that the UPS website is working fine and you’re having issues with your home internet network or the device you’re using to access UPS.
Let’s get you back to managing your shipments online.
How to troubleshoot the UPS website
Usually, it only takes you a few minutes to figure out what is causing your outage. The UPS website and app both experience routine maintenance, and you can find status updates on UPS’s website. You should also try restarting your modem, restating your router or mesh system, restarting your device, and switching to cellular data on your phone to see if that helps.
Look on the UPS website for outages
Since UPS is all about time-sensitive shipping and deliveries, it maintains a couple of dedicated pages on its website to keep customers up to date about potential technical issues, delays, or website outages. Go there first to see if it’s reporting any issues.
You can also look for crowdsourced outage reports on websites like Downdetector.
Resources for UPS customers
- For regular customers, see UPS Service Alerts for shipping delays
- For large businesses, see UPS Important Updates for technical issues
- To contact customer service, go to the UPS Help and Support Center for questions on tracking, shipping, and delivery changes
No UPS outage? Try some quick fixes
If the UPS website isn’t down but you’re still having problems, it could be that you’re experiencing connectivity issues on your home network or the device you use. Often, all it takes is a quick restart to get things working again.
Quick fixes for a bad Wi-Fi connection
1 Switch off your Wi-Fi, then switch it back on.
2 Restart your device and go back online.
3 Close and reopen the UPS app or the browser.
4 Switch to cellular data if you’re on a phone.
5 Use a different device to visit the UPS website.
Troubleshoot your home internet connection
If any device you try can only access UPS using a cellular connection, then your home internet is the cause of your UPS connection woes. There are myriad ways to try fixing a funky connection, but often it doesn’t take much effort to get back online.
You should start by running a speed test to see if you’re getting the proper amount of bandwidth for downloads and uploads based on the internet package from your internet provider.

After you’ve run a speed test, perform a quick diagnostic of your home internet setup. You may need to restart your router, move to a new room where the Wi-Fi is better, or use an Ethernet cable to plug in directly to improve your speeds.
Ways to improve your home internet connection
- Restart your modem and router by unplugging them for 30 seconds and then plugging them back in.
- Move your device closer to your router to get a clearer Wi-Fi signal
- Close out unnecessary browser windows and tabs to free up bandwidth
- Clear your browser cache to fix errors and create more space. (Most browsers let you clear your cache in Settings>Privacy and security menus.)
You can also give some love and care to your Wi-Fi router, which is often the culprit in connectivity issues.
Ways to improve Wi-Fi performance
- Use a different frequency if possible. Some routers and mesh systems allow you to assign separate connections to each router radio, while others don’t.
- Move your Wi-Fi router. Pull it away from corners and thick furniture, like loaded bookshelves. However, you need lots of Ethernet or a pro to move it into another room.
- Plug in your device directly using an Ethernet cable to improve speeds.
- Buy a new router that has updated Wi-Fi 7 standards.
