Our Starry Internet review
Starry Internet is an internet service available in a handful of US cities. Its fixed wireless technology uses radio transmitters to beam fast internet speeds to your home at a cheap price—with unlimited data and no extra fees for installation or equipment. Availability is limited mostly to apartments and condos, and it’s great for city dwellers and cord cutters. And since the network isn’t mobile, like T-Mobile’s and Verizon’s 5G Home Internet, you can experience more reliability and less congestion during peek internet usage times.
Here are the cities where Starry is available:
- Boston
- Denver
- Los Angeles
- New York City
- Washington, DC
Pros
- Affordable price with fast advertised speeds
- Unlimited data
- No setup or installation fees
Cons
- Limited availability

Starry Internet’s speeds: What’s best for you?
Starry 300 delivers download speeds up to 300 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 50 Mbps. That is a solid speed for most users, assuming this wireless connection stays consistent throughout the day and you don’t experience regular outages. A download speed of 300 Mbps is enough to support a mid-sized household of three or four people.
Many customers within Starry’s service area can also get Starry 100 and Starry 200, two plans with slower speeds, but you can’t beat the price. Go for one of these plans if you’re on a budget and share your Wi-Fi with only one other person.
Starry Internet’s data caps
Starry Internet has no data caps. You can use the internet as much as you like, and you don’t have to worry about overage fees or throttled speeds if you use too much data.

Our favorite plan: Priced at just $50 a month, Starry 300 gives you speeds up to 300 Mbps—enough to deliver a solid connection for a mid-sized household of regular streamers and Zoomers. The wireless connection may hold up as well under heavy use, but the plan deserves credit for its straightforward pricing, which includes unlimited data and no extra fees for installation, equipment or canceling your service.

Starry Internet fees
Fee | |
---|---|
Modem/router rental | WiFi router included with select plans only |
Installation | None |
Cancellation | None |
Annual price hike | None |
One of the best things about Starry is the pricing—you get a straightforward deal without having to worry about the extra fees that usually get tacked onto internet bills.
Most Starry plans include a modem and router at no extra cost. It’s also common to see annual contracts on internet plans, especially with cable internet providers like Xfinity and Cox. Canceling early means paying out expensive early termination fees, but Starry doesn’t have any contracts, so you have more flexibility to cancel without paying a penalty.
Starry offers a promotional $10 off a month for your first year. Technically, this isn’t a price hike, but something to factor into your budget after your first year of service. When compared to other internet providers that do have significant price hikes after promotional pricing ends this increase won’t break anyones bank.
Starry Internet installation, equipment, and contracts
Starry Internet comes with a Wi-Fi router that’s specially designed to work with the radio transmitters it uses to provide internet.
Installing Starry is relatively simple. When you sign up for your service, pick a time when you’re available for a technician to come by to set up your service. According to Starry’s website, a technician will come to your home within a half an hour of the start time to get your Wi-Fi up and running.
Starry Internet internet contracts
Starry Internet doesn’t have annual contracts. You can sign up and then cancel your service at any time without facing early termination fees.

Starry Internet is fairly straightforward compared to other internet providers. It neither has the eye-popping speeds of fiber internet providers nor the impressively low introductory prices of many cable internet providers.
Its prices and speeds are neck-and-neck with Xfinity’s cable internet plans—but Xfinity has rate hikes that kick in after a year, so you’re getting a better price from Starry in the long run. Starry skews a bit cheaper than Spectrum, another major cable company. But it can’t quite compare to Verizon, whose Fios fiber service costs about the same but delivers faster upload speeds and more consistent service overall.
Starry’s prices and extra perks are almost identical to those offered by 5G internet providers T-Mobile and Verizon. But Starry’s competitors have an edge: T-Mobile gets outstanding results in our customer satisfaction survey, while Verizon 5G Home Internet offers Verizon customers a 50% discount if they’re also signed up for a qualifying phone plan.
