Starry offers $15 plans in low-income areas through its Starry Connect program. If your building participates, you don’t need to do anything extra to qualify. The plans offer both download and upload speeds up to 30Mbps, with the following benefits:
- No credit checks
- No data caps
- No long-term contracts
- No requirements to participate in other assistance programs
- WiFi router included
- No extra paperwork to participate
If your building doesn’t participate and you live in New York, you may be able to qualify for a $15 monthly plan if you meet certain criteria. Visit Starry’s New York-specific website for more information.
You may also qualify for the federal Lifeline program, which pays the first $9.25 toward either the phone or internet bill of qualifying households.
What fees do you pay with Starry internet?
Starry Internet charges very few extra fees for internet service. Most customers get an included router, and there are no data caps or cancellation fees on any plan. Installation is free, too.
For almost everyone, the advertised price is the actual price you pay until year two, when your price goes up by $10 per month.
A few areas have $9 monthly router rental fees, but you can use your own compatible router to get out of the fee. If you see that fee in your cart, I also recommend calling Starry customer service at +1-888-231-9403 to see if you can get out of it.
If you get Ooma VoIp services through Starry, taxes and fees are calculated based on your zip code.

Starry offers good prices for fast internet service, and that means it doesn’t have to offer a bunch of gift cards or free perks to get customers.
I recommend signing up for autopay with a debit card to save $5 a month, and checking for competitors at the one-year mark to get out of paying the $10 monthly plan increase.
It’s also a good idea to get a referral code and give it to friends and neighbors in your building. You could get a month of service for free.
