Spectrum Reshuffles its Plan Lineup with a New Premier Offering

Parent company Charter Communications said on Monday that current Spectrum Internet and Internet Ultra subscribers will see a speed increase at no extra cost this week (if they haven’t already). The company also revealed a new 500Mbps plan with a significant discount when bundled with Spectrum Mobile or Spectrum TV.

“These commitments are encapsulated within Spectrum’s new brand platform, Life Unlimited, which provides customers access to a life of ‘unlimited’ opportunity and possibility when seamlessly connected through Spectrum’s Internet, Mobile, and Video services,” the company said in a press release.

Spectrum speed increases over the years

Spectrum’s base plan has experienced a few speed boosts over the last few years. It doubled in speed from 100Mbps to 200Mbps in 2021, followed by 300Mbps in 2022. Beginning on September 17, the plan will increase to 400Mbps, but it won’t be offered to new customers.

Spectrum Internet Premier, with speeds up to 500Mbps, will replace the retired base plan. According to Charter, customers can get the new plan starting at $30 per month for up to three years if they bundle it with two Spectrum Mobile lines or any Spectrum TV service. Spectrum Internet Gig will also be offered for $40 per month when paired with the same services.

Existing customers with Spectrum Internet Ultra will also see a 100Mbps speed boost, now with speeds up to 600Mbps. However, Charter has also sunsetted this plan in favor of Spectrum Internet Premier.

Charter doubles down on customer experience, value

Spectrum’s push for more transparency, higher speeds, guaranteed pricing, and reimagined customer service comes as fiber internet providers like AT&T and Metronet infiltrate Spectrum’s cable internet markets with faster symmetrical speeds, better reliability, and lower prices.

Until recently, Spectrum offered promotional pricing on all plans for the first 12 months. After that, customers could expect pricing to increase by $25 or more per month, depending on the plan. In 2024, Spectrum increased the promotional pricing window to 24 months for its Ultra and Gig plans. Now, that window extends for up to three years with the Premier and Gig plans.

“By delivering competitive, reliable products and exceptional customer service at an incredible value, we are declaring our unwavering commitment to helping our customers lead unlimited lives, anywhere and everywhere they need us,” says Sharon Peters, Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer for Charter.

News of the revamped plan lineup and speed boost arrives after Charter launched gigabit broadband service in Cherokee County, South Carolina, in September. According to the company, it’s rolling out an updated infrastructure across its entire 41-state cable internet market to support gigabit upload speeds and multigig download speeds.
