If T-Mobile 5G Home Internet is your internet provider and you’re having trouble connecting, start with a speed test to see if you’re in an outage.
First, reconnect to your T-Mobile 5G Home Internet Wi-Fi. Then, click below.

What to look for in your speed test results
If you’re in a T-Mobile 5G Home Internet outage, the speed test will say “Loading,” and a light blue circle will spin, but you won’t get any results.
If you get results that show download speeds, upload speeds, and latency, though, you aren’t in an outage.
You could still be having problems, of course. Ideally, you should get speeds reasonably close to what your plan promises, but you need the following for a healthy fixed wireless connection:
- Download speeds of at least 20Mbps
- Upload speeds of at least 5Mbps
- Latency of less than 100 ms

How to troubleshoot your T-Mobile 5G Home Internet connection
If you get stuck on “Loading” on the speed test above, go through the steps below one by one.
Step 1: Try logging into your T-Mobile 5G Home Internet network with a different device, such as a gaming console, smart TV, or smartphone.
Step 2: Check your T-Mobile 5G Home Internet wireless gateway. Look for at least two bars of signal strength on the front panel.
Step 3: Check your power cables for damage and to make sure it’s connected securely.
Step 4: Restart (or unplug and reboot) your affected devices and your gateway. A full reset usually takes about 10 minutes.
Step 5: Check for notifications in the T-Life app or your T-Mobile account online.

T-Mobile offers three different routers for its home internet customers. But with each type, you can check the connection by looking for bars on the front of the device.

Still can’t get online? Contact T-Mobile 5G Home Internet
If none of the above steps fix the problem, the T-Mobile network might be down in your area. The company doesn’t publish any kind of outage map, but you can call +1-800-937-8997 to report problems and get help, or dial 611 on your T-Mobile phone.
You can also contact the company online or try the T-Mobile app.
Does T-Mobile 5G Home Internet offer refunds?
T-Mobile does not usually offer refunds for home internet outages. Here’s what we found in its terms and conditions for residential internet service
If you are in a prolonged outage, though, we recommend calling in to ask for compensation. T-Mobile has a great reputation for customer service, and there’s a good chance it’ll help you out. If you are entitled to an adjustment, it will show up as a credit on your bill.

How T-Mobile 5G Home Internet compares
T-Mobile competes for home internet customers against all the biggest internet providers out there. Choosing the provider that’s right for you depends on the speeds you need, how much you’re willing to pay, and how much you care about billing shenanigans down the road.
If you’re thinking about switching, here’s what you can expect:
T-Mobile vs. Verizon: The competition is fierce between T-Mobile 5G Home Internet and Verizon 5G Home Internet. T-Mobile has better 5G coverage in cities and suburbs, but Verizon may offer better coverage on its 4G LTE and 5G networks in rural areas. If you can get fiber internet from either company, though, you should.
T-Mobile vs. Xfinity: Xfinity’s network is built on coaxial cables, so it’s usually going to be faster and more reliable than what you can get from T-Mobile’s 5G home internet. If your local Xfinity infrastructure is ancient, though, you could see recurring problems. Xfinity usually offers lower prices for fast speeds, and both providers offer multi-year price locks from time to time.
T-Mobile vs. Spectrum: T-Mobile is less reliable and more expensive than Spectrum at first, but the customer experience can be a lot better. You can expect more pricing stability and fewer fees with T-Mobile.
T-Mobile vs. AT&T: Both providers offer fiber internet in some places and 5G home internet in others. Go with fiber if you can, but if you can’t get it and you’re having consistent problems with T-Mobile 5G Home Internet, AT&T Air is worth a try. AT&T recently bought new radio spectrum and has been improving its 5G tech, so it’s a lot better than it was even a year ago.
Each of the providers listed above lets you save when you bundle mobile and internet services, but only T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon own and operate their own cell towers.

My take: Don’t hesitate to shop for alternatives
I often recommend T-Mobile 5G Home Internet because it’s affordable, easy to set up, and comes at a great price when you bundle with mobile service. But it’s only as good as your local cell phone towers. If your home isn’t near one, or if the ones near you are crowded with a bunch of mobile phone traffic, your internet could be slow and unreliable.
If you can’t get fiber internet and you don’t have a cable internet option (or don’t like the one you do have), consider 5G home internet alternatives like Verizon 5G Home Internet or AT&T Air. If they have better infrastructure in your neighborhood, you’ll get better service.
