Alexandria Residential Internet Coverage

Lying just outside of Washington DC, Alexandria hugs the borders of Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland. As a major metropolitan area, it has many established local and national internet service providers.

Those preferring the speed of fiber internet often choose Verizon Fios, although this provider's network is currently limited to the northern and southern edges of Alexandria. Covered northern neighborhoods include Alexandria Wrest and North Ridge. Those with coverage in the south include Old Town and part of Landmark.

Verizon makes high-speed DSL service available to all of Alexandria.

Xfinity has an expansive cable network in this area that reaches all of Alexandria, plus a few communities to the south of the city.

RCN is widely available in central and western parts of Alexandria. Stretching from Alexandria Wrest in the northwest through Seminary Hill, service stops short of Taylor Run and Potomac Yard. Old Town and Old Town North both fall outside the RCN service area.

Not to be outdone, Megapath is a competitive company in this region, bringing internet packages to the entire metropolitan area of Alexandria.

The absolute worst internet provider on the planet and we are all forced to be apart of them due to the cable monopoly. Terrible customer service, terrible pricing, and DEFINITELY terrible internet service

I love that Cox Communications is very reliable. They are pretty fast with their customer service and handle issues in a timely manner. I just wish that the price didn't have to increase but other than that, I'm satisfied as a customer.

Service started out great. A few months later speeds dropped noticably. I called the help desk refreshed my modem and made sure the router was updated. No further assistance, but a low monthly bill is hard to trade.

Live in a small town or suburb outside of Alexandria? We got you covered, too.

Methodology

HighSpeedInternet.com compares internet providers within cities and metro areas to give customers the most relevant insights into their internet options. When comparing providers, we consider the following:

  • Provider coverage areas
  • Advertised speeds
  • Real-world speeds (speed test data)
  • Customer feedback
  • Other relevant localized data

We source localized coverage data displayed on our coverage maps from the FCC coverage database, which is updated every six months. For the most current summary of providers in your area, we recommend you use our zip code search tool, which offers the most recent coverage data straight from internet service providers (ISPs).

Our city overviews compare advertised provider speeds. We may also include real-world speed data gathered from millions of annual speed test results. To process our speed test data, we first filter out outliers and providers with low test counts. We then calculate speed averages with every ISP subject to the same parameters.

We gather ISP customer feedback data from our comprehensive annual surveys and direct customer feedback submitted to HighSpeedInternet.com. Unless stated otherwise, average ratings are calculated nationally.
