Norfolk Residential Internet Coverage

The established community of Norfolk is home to senior citizens, families of differing sizes and ages, and college students. The internet options in this community must meet the needs of these diverse populations.

While fiber internet is available in some parts of Norfolk, Verizon Fios currently only reaches northeastern communities like Willoughby Beach, Ocean View, and North Camellia Acres. Very small areas at the city limits also have fiber coverage.

Through Verizon, standard high-speed DSL internet is provided to all of Norfolk and many outlying suburbs. It reaches southern parts of the city like West Ghent, Ingleside, Poplar Halls, and Lake Terrace.

Much of Norfolk is within the Megapath service area, although northern communities are not in the service area. Service stops just south of Willoughby Beach, Willoughby Terrace, and Lenox. This company does not currently bring internet service to the central neighborhoods of Larchmont, Talbot Park, Colonial Place, and Park Place.

The prices are very reasonable and the customer service reps are friendly and try to go the extra mile; however, this experience is a double-edged sword. I'm getting the internet service I pay for (3.1 - 7.0 Mbps, the fastest available here) and I'm on the phone with customer service too often to complain about the slow speeds and the never-ending need to reset or replace my modem. This "enhanced internet" pkg. struggles to handle the demands of 3 phones, 2 computers, and an Amazon Fire stick. For my area, I have only two choices - cheap, slowpoke Verizon or technologically superior, overpriced Cox... I'll take the better technology and possibly inferior customer service which is far less frustrating than watching your TV streams always buffering and your wifi crapping out repeatedly, because it's always been true - you get what you pay for.

Methodology

HighSpeedInternet.com compares internet providers within cities and metro areas to give customers the most relevant insights into their internet options. When comparing providers, we consider the following:

  • Provider coverage areas
  • Advertised speeds
  • Real-world speeds (speed test data)
  • Customer feedback
  • Other relevant localized data

We source localized coverage data displayed on our coverage maps from the FCC coverage database, which is updated every six months. For the most current summary of providers in your area, we recommend you use our zip code search tool, which offers the most recent coverage data straight from internet service providers (ISPs).

Our city overviews compare advertised provider speeds. We may also include real-world speed data gathered from millions of annual speed test results. To process our speed test data, we first filter out outliers and providers with low test counts. We then calculate speed averages with every ISP subject to the same parameters.

We gather ISP customer feedback data from our comprehensive annual surveys and direct customer feedback submitted to HighSpeedInternet.com. Unless stated otherwise, average ratings are calculated nationally.
