Jersey City Residential Internet Coverage

Tucked between two large bodies of water, the city of Jersey City is one of the largest in New Jersey. With over one dozen internet service providers serving this city, Jersey City is an excellent place for both residential customers and business customers.

Nearly all of Jersey City enjoys access to high-speed fiber internet through Verizon Fios, which includes almost all of Jersey City within its service area. Verizon, which provides DSL throughout the country, has a service network that reaches all of Jersey City.

Xfinity makes cable available to much of this city, although part of The Heights in northern Jersey City is not within the Xfinity service area. Service begins stretching into the western half of Downtown, but the eastern half of this neighborhoods falls outside the coverage area.

RCN has a limited service area in this city, covering only part of The Waterfront in eastern Jersey City. Similarly, Time Warner Cable currently only offers cable service to part of The Heights.

All of Jersey City, and many of its outlying communities, enjoy full coverage from Optimum.

The service area of XO Communications reaches parts of The Heights in the North, stretching as far south as Liberty Park, although coverage stops short of Greenville.

Through Cogent Communications, part of Downtown enjoys high-speed internet access.

In addition, from The Heights to Bergen-Lafayette, much of Jersey City is served by Level 3 Communications. Portions of Liberty Park, Bergen-Lafayette, and Greenville are within the service area of NetCarrier Telecom.

Monmouth Telephone and Telegraph brings internet to select Jersey City neighborhoods, including Journal Square, West Side, and Hackensack Riverfront.

TW Telecom has a small service area that covers part of the Downtown neighborhood. Neighborhoods with service coverage from Access One include Lincoln Park, McGinley Square, Downtown, West Side, and Bergen-Lafayette.

The service and offer is good, but the connection is very inconsistent and can be frustrating on a daily basis, especially during night time

For the last 4 weeks internet has not been at all reliable. After hours of no internet, I receive text messages advising that Xfinity is down in my area and I will be notified soon as to when it will be fixed. This has happened too frequently over the last three or four weeks for Comcast/Xfinity for me to be used. Ironically, I have been a Comcast customer for more than 20 years. But I finally had to terminate my serviced with them because they have become too unrelieable.

I have triple play bundle from Verizon FIOS for over 4 years now and I have been extremely satisfied with their internet service. I get amazingly consistent upload and download speeds. The only negative I would call out is that their router recycles itself every now and then without a warning. When I spoke to Verizon about this problem, they claimed that this happens when DHCP is re-cycled. This though not optimal is livable. I have several devices connected to the internet as any modern household would have and I see no latency at all. Pricing can be bit steep so it may not appeal to everyone's palate. They also don't seem to work very hard to retain customers and are ok if a customer leaves for a competitor. Perhaps, its just a matter of luck when it comes to who you speak to when you call up their support team.
