Madison Residential Internet Coverage

The medium size city of Madison is the tenth largest community in Alabama. Homes there are among the most expensive in Alabama. The white-collar workforce has jobs primarily in management, office support and engineering. The family-friendly area is also home to highly educated individuals who expect the same of their children. They're also wealthy and ethnically diverse, with whites and African-Americans making up the majority of the population. Madison residents place little value on high-speed internet. Only 39% of the community can access such services, compared with 77% of Alabama.

Cable internet users have several options. WOW! provides cable internet to 99% of the area. Between the Tennessee River and Rte. 72, Mediacom reaches 34% of homes with cable internet. In that same area, Xfinity offers cable internet to 9% of residents. DSL is provided solely by AT&T, which reaches 94% of residents.

In addition to the services offered to residents, businesses in Madison are beginning to have access to fiber optics. Currently, Level 3 Communications reaches 6% of commercial users.

We have been perfectly happy with AT&T. We are not heavy duty users. Some gaming, streaming, but we have cable (fiber), wireless, and landline. The big problem has been getting repairs if needed. The technicians are great when they come and well-trained, but it always takes at least two days to get them out. Only had to call twice since we’ve had the service. The other problem is that the tv portion jumped way up after the promotional period. Am considering other providers.

Methodology

HighSpeedInternet.com compares internet providers within cities and metro areas to give customers the most relevant insights into their internet options. When comparing providers, we consider the following:

  • Provider coverage areas
  • Advertised speeds
  • Real-world speeds (speed test data)
  • Customer feedback
  • Other relevant localized data

We source localized coverage data displayed on our coverage maps from the FCC coverage database, which is updated every six months. For the most current summary of providers in your area, we recommend you use our zip code search tool, which offers the most recent coverage data straight from internet service providers (ISPs).

Our city overviews compare advertised provider speeds. We may also include real-world speed data gathered from millions of annual speed test results. To process our speed test data, we first filter out outliers and providers with low test counts. We then calculate speed averages with every ISP subject to the same parameters.

We gather ISP customer feedback data from our comprehensive annual surveys and direct customer feedback submitted to HighSpeedInternet.com. Unless stated otherwise, average ratings are calculated nationally.
