Akron Residential Internet Coverage

Whether you need residential or business internet in the city of Akron, you can choose from a number of fast and reliable options.

One of the biggest and well known internet service providers in this area is AT&T, which offers both DSL internet and fiber internet throughout Akron. DSL has a larger network, but the fiber network is growing steadily. Service runs from Fairlawn Heights in the west to Ellet in the east, stretching from the northern neighborhood of Merriman Valley to the southern neighborhood of Firestone Park.

Several western Akron neighborhoods are within the service area of Frontier Communications. Neighborhoods with access to Frontier Communications service include Highland Square, Wallhaven, Lane-Wooster, and Rolling Acres.

In addition, Windstream offers coverage to a limited part of northern Akron, including Merriman Valley.

Cable internet is also widely available in Akron through Time Warner Cable, which provides coverage to all of Akron and to communities beyond its northern, southern, eastern, and western limits.

Cable:

Cable provides internet speeds faster than DSL through the same cables used for cable TV.

Worst customer service ever. It took 4 tries just to get me the right equipment. The bill for basic cable service just kept increasing and increasing and increasing. I've delt with intermittent outages which Spectrum NEVER offers to discount for, but they expect full payment regardless. After this last increase I downgraded to just internet. Much to my surprise they don't pro-rate billing so even though I have no cable service I still have to pay for it for an entire month. (over $200.00) If I could give a negative stars rating I would. I will be researching and looking for a better alternative so that I can switch internet providers as well. I cannot wait until I can finally say good riddance.

At&t is a company that doesn't care about their customers and have a trained group of representatives dedicated to treating you like you're a number. Please choose another internet/cable provider unless you enjoy being scammed

Cost is good but the speed of ATT's service is slow and takes a long time for pages to load.

Live in a small town or suburb outside of Akron? We got you covered, too.

Methodology

HighSpeedInternet.com compares internet providers within cities and metro areas to give customers the most relevant insights into their internet options. When comparing providers, we consider the following:

  • Provider coverage areas
  • Advertised speeds
  • Real-world speeds (speed test data)
  • Customer feedback
  • Other relevant localized data

We source localized coverage data displayed on our coverage maps from the FCC coverage database, which is updated every six months. For the most current summary of providers in your area, we recommend you use our zip code search tool, which offers the most recent coverage data straight from internet service providers (ISPs).

Our city overviews compare advertised provider speeds. We may also include real-world speed data gathered from millions of annual speed test results. To process our speed test data, we first filter out outliers and providers with low test counts. We then calculate speed averages with every ISP subject to the same parameters.

We gather ISP customer feedback data from our comprehensive annual surveys and direct customer feedback submitted to HighSpeedInternet.com. Unless stated otherwise, average ratings are calculated nationally.
