Which internet providers in Philadelphia are the cheapest?
Astound appears to be the cheapest internet provider in Philadelphia, offering a 300Mbps cable internet plan for just $25 per month. That’s a fantastic deal, but be aware the price increases to more than $150 per month after the first 12 months. Folks in Philly may find that competitors offer a better deal after the Astound promo expires.
If you compare gigabit plans, Verizon has the best deal. You pay $89.99 monthly for a 940Mbps fiber plan with symmetrical speeds and no data caps, and the price never increases. Xfinity’s faster 1,200Mbps cable internet is similar in price to Verizon at $80.00 per month, but unlimited data costs extra.

Philadelphia residential internet coverage
We no longer recommend Hughesnet for residential internet service. For more information on affordable satellite internet, see our overview of satellite providers, including Starlink.
There are hundreds of neighborhoods in Philadelphia, but almost all have the same internet providers.
Verizon Home Internet offers fiber internet in most of Philadelphia, including Center City, West Philly, South Philly, North Philly, Northwest Philly, and Northeast Philly. Speeds range from up to 300 Mbps to 2,300Mbps, depending on where you live.
Xfinity is a cable internet provider covering most of Philadelphia. Its fastest plan reaches 1,200 Mbps, but Xfinity’s cable service doesn’t have the equal upload and download speeds like Verizon’s fiber internet.
Astound is another big-name cable internet provider in Philadelphia. Plans range in speed from 300Mbps to 1,500Mbps, depending on where you live.
There are a few smaller providers sprinkled in various neighborhoods that offer broadband internet service, like PhillyWhisper and River Valley Internet. They sometimes offer better deals and usually provide better customer service.
Satellite internet providers like Hughesnet and Viasat are also available, but you should avoid them unless satellite is your only option. Satellite internet is slower and more expensive than fiber, DSL, or cable internet.
Highest-rated internet service providers in Philadelphia
Verizon Home Internet has the highest rank in overall satisfaction based on our annual customer satisfaction survey. It tops Xfinity and Astound, both of which are mainly cable internet providers in the Philadelphia area.
Of the three, Xfinity has the highest ranking in speed satisfaction, which is surprising given Xfinity has cable internet and Verizon Home Internet has fiber. On the flip side, Verizon Home Internet has the highest reliability score because fiber fails far less than cable internet.
Astound ranks eighth out of 15 in speed, reliability, and customer service satisfaction. Its lowest ranking is in price satisfaction, which isn’t surprising given the steep price hikes after the introductory period ends.

For one! customer service absolutely no help. They are just as horrible as their service. It seriously doesn't make any sense. 1 bar anywhere I go. i could be standing on the spectrum cell tower and still have 1 bar! unbelievable! If you're stuck somewhere needing help or to say last words. your not reaching your loves ones with spectrum. Their bill should be 14.99 a month.

HighSpeedInternet.com compares internet providers within cities and metro areas to give customers the most relevant insights into their internet options. When comparing providers, we consider the following:
- Provider coverage areas
- Advertised speeds
- Real-world speeds (speed test data)
- Customer feedback
- Other relevant localized data
We source localized coverage data displayed on our coverage maps from the FCC coverage database, which is updated every six months. For the most current summary of providers in your area, we recommend you use our zip code search tool, which offers the most recent coverage data straight from internet service providers (ISPs).
Our city overviews compare advertised provider speeds. We may also include real-world speed data gathered from millions of annual speed test results. To process our speed test data, we first filter out outliers and providers with low test counts. We then calculate speed averages with every ISP subject to the same parameters.
We gather ISP customer feedback data from our comprehensive annual surveys and direct customer feedback submitted to HighSpeedInternet.com. Unless stated otherwise, average ratings are calculated nationally.
