Sarasota Residential Internet Coverage

The coastal community of Sarasota has dozens of established neighborhoods, many of which are served by multiple internet service providers.

Through Frontier, residents and businesses have access to advanced fiber internet service. Starting in the western coastal neighborhoods of Lido Key and Saint Armands, the service area runs east to the city limits in Glen Oaks and Beechwood. The network reaches Indian Beach in the north and Granada in the south.

All of Sarasota enjoys high-speed cable internet from Xfinity. The network hits the outlying points of Sarasota, as well as central neighborhoods like Laurel Park, Alta Vista, and Southside Village.

High-speed fiber internet is provided by FPL FiberNet to almost all of Sarasota. Only small parts of Lido Shores and Bay Isle fall outside the FPL FiberNet service area.

Brighthouse Networks has a small service area that is limited to the northern part of Sarasota. The neighborhoods of Central Cocoanut, Indian Beach, Sapphire Shores, and Amaryllis Park can access Brighthouse Networks internet.

Finally, DSL is available through Frontier Communications in all of Sarasota.

DSL:

DSL provides internet service via phone cables and is up to ten times faster than dial-up service.

Cable:

Cable provides internet speeds faster than DSL through the same cables used for cable TV.

Satellite internet is widely available, but offers slower speeds due to a far-traveling signal.

Fiber:

Fiber relies on glass strands to relay digital code and is much faster than both DSL and cable.

Frontier is by far the best Internet service provider in Florida. It is a direct connection with Fiber not cable. I work from home and need the speed and bandwidth. Frontier's technician was on time and provided extra care to set our home WiFi network - even with our wireless pool connections. We have the whole home WiFi from Frontier and love it! Coverage is all over the home even to the back yard! Frontier is the most reliable network -- We have a gamer at home, I work from home and we download movies with ease. Highly recommend.

Great speed but only for the Internet when it is connected. Service takes a week to 10 days. I know that sounds ridiculous but my Internet went out and it took 4 days just to get the correct information and then another 5 days to schedule the technician. I am still in shock.

When it's working its great. The problem is the it's not reliable. Ot goes down at least three times a week. You would be streaming a movie and all of the sudden it's gone. When it's up the speed is enough to support two or three devices.

Comcast has had almost 100% availability since I started using it over a year ago. I have noticed periods of slower performance in the evenings. I believe cost for Comcast ISP service is on the high side compared to other ISPs.

Very good availability. I haven't noticed any downtime in the last three months. I do notice some slow down during certain periods but otherwise excellent service.

See internet providers in nearby cities.

Live in a small town or suburb outside of Sarasota? We got you covered, too.

Methodology

HighSpeedInternet.com compares internet providers within cities and metro areas to give customers the most relevant insights into their internet options. When comparing providers, we consider the following:

  • Provider coverage areas
  • Advertised speeds
  • Real-world speeds (speed test data)
  • Customer feedback
  • Other relevant localized data

We source localized coverage data displayed on our coverage maps from the FCC coverage database, which is updated every six months. For the most current summary of providers in your area, we recommend you use our zip code search tool, which offers the most recent coverage data straight from internet service providers (ISPs).

Our city overviews compare advertised provider speeds. We may also include real-world speed data gathered from millions of annual speed test results. To process our speed test data, we first filter out outliers and providers with low test counts. We then calculate speed averages with every ISP subject to the same parameters.

We gather ISP customer feedback data from our comprehensive annual surveys and direct customer feedback submitted to HighSpeedInternet.com. Unless stated otherwise, average ratings are calculated nationally.
