Provo Residential Internet Coverage

Provo is a dynamic and unique city. It's both a college town and lower-middle class. Yet, it's also a city of well-educated residents who work in white-collar professions. Provo also has a larger of residents who are artists as well as those who work in computers and math than much of the rest of the country. Given the unique makeup of Provo residents, it's clear that the population relies on dependable internet. 100% of Provo residents have high-speed options compared to 93% of all Utah.

CenturyLink provides DSL to 93% of residents followed by Xfinity cable internet options at 92%. Google Fiber has chosen Provo as one their roll-out cities and offers fiber optics to 89% of residents from Union Lake to S. Slate Canyon Rd. Union fiber is slowly breaking into the market and provides fiber optics from Union Lake to University Ave and Brigham Young University.

Business can opt for Megapath or Integra Telecom copper wire, DSL from Integra Telecom, CenturyLink or Megapath. Commercial fiber optics are available from Veracity Networks or CentraCom.

I've been an Xfinity mobile and internet customer for over 3 years paying over $110 a month for the internet alone. I recently moved houses and tried to move my internet service over and it has now been almost two weeks (and counting) and my services are still not running at my new house. It takes forever to get a technician out and the one that finally comes out didn't really help much aside from saying "I can't do anything we need to bury your line and that could take up to 13 days, but I will put you at the top of the list as a priority". I work from home and I haven't been able to work for almost two weeks which means I don't make any money while they try and get someone out to me. Even at the "top of their list" I still haven't had anyone come out". I've called in about 10 times and each time I get a different agent that tells me contradicting information like "Oh you don't even need a tech you can just bring your devices over and just call in to activate your service". Unfortunately, Xfinity is the only internet that services the area where our house is but as soon as there is another provider I am canceling and switching over my phone and internet service as I feel like I do not matter to them, and therefore I want to take my money elsewhere. If you have other internet providers like Google Fiber or ANYTHING else just go with that. Because when something breaks it takes an extremely long time to get some actual help/service.

When we first installed Google Fiber 2G technical performance was fine. It seemed they were working out the kinks. However, in the last two months, there has been nothing but problems. There are rampant performance issues--loss of service every 10-15 minutes for two or three seconds, intermittently slow Wifi, devices unable to connect, etc. All of these problems have been documented (ping -t, speed tests, photos, etc.) and shared with Google Fiber. Recently, five technical teams have come to the house, dozens of long service calls/chats with Google Fiber Support, escalation to Google Fiber engineering. None of this has helped. Technicians now sheepishly admit many other 2G customers in the area are struggling with similar problems but Google Fiber is unable to fix (even acknowledge) the underlying issues. When I call for help I only get canned, ineffective support. Google Fiber cannot be recommended. Stay far away...

Not super honest. Great Internet for a year, then got a notification that our bill was going to double because some promotional offer was ending. We were never informed that our rates were a "Promotional offer". I called and asked if there was any chance we could get the prices we were told we would get; instead, they told me that my rates would be going up again in a year when another promotional offer ended. So guess what? I'm on the hunt for a different provider. Don't believe the advertised prices.

Very fast and stable. Gigabit is great but it'll cost you $70/month. But the free plan is actually not half bad. Decent internet for free? Yes please.

See internet providers in nearby cities.

Live in a small town or suburb outside of Provo? We got you covered, too.

Methodology

HighSpeedInternet.com compares internet providers within cities and metro areas to give customers the most relevant insights into their internet options. When comparing providers, we consider the following:

  • Provider coverage areas
  • Advertised speeds
  • Real-world speeds (speed test data)
  • Customer feedback
  • Other relevant localized data

We source localized coverage data displayed on our coverage maps from the FCC coverage database, which is updated every six months. For the most current summary of providers in your area, we recommend you use our zip code search tool, which offers the most recent coverage data straight from internet service providers (ISPs).

Our city overviews compare advertised provider speeds. We may also include real-world speed data gathered from millions of annual speed test results. To process our speed test data, we first filter out outliers and providers with low test counts. We then calculate speed averages with every ISP subject to the same parameters.

We gather ISP customer feedback data from our comprehensive annual surveys and direct customer feedback submitted to HighSpeedInternet.com. Unless stated otherwise, average ratings are calculated nationally.
