Durham Residential Internet Coverage

The northern city of Durham lies near the border that North Carolina shares with Virginia. With over 250,000 residents, this growing metropolis has many national and local internet service companies that bring consistent coverage to residents and businesses.

Through Centurylink Prism, a small part of Durham can access fiber internet. This network is expanding, but currently serves the southwestern neighborhoods of Blands and Farrington. CenturyLink has an identical DSL network.

AT&T offers both fiber coverage and DSL coverage to Durham. Some places have access to one or the other, while others fall within both networks. AT&T service is primarily available in the outer edges of Durham; central neighborhoods like Joyland, Oak Grove, and Gorman are not in the AT&T network. However, AT&T does bring internet to outlying neighborhoods like Rougemont, Fox Run, Huckleberry Spring, and Bethesda.

National provider Frontier Communications has a huge service area that reaches the entirety of Durham. The same is true for Time Warner Cable, one of the largest cable providers in this area.

I canceled a spectrum mobile account while I still had a device payment plan on my tablet. When I canceled, I was told that the tablet would continue to be paid off with my auto-pay payments. When my card expired, they did not send me outstanding balance communications because the account was canceled. I called and paid the balance manually as well as updated my autopay information after I noticed it had missed a few months of payments. I was assured by their customer service representative that the account had not been sent to collections and that my balance had been paid in full. AFTER I updated my card, they did not even try to charge it. They sent a balance of FIVE DOLLARS to a collections agency. When I called for the second time, they told me that device payment plans don't exist if you don't have current cell service with them. That would have been great to hear from any of the three other representatives I had talked to previously.

The customer service is terrible rude and need training on effective listening. I’m unsure why customer service is in their feelings. I subscribe to Spectrum 2017 for TV/internet/phone. I have had constant outages (in out) for months. Spectrum service have and continue unable to fix the multiple problems. From nationwide outages to service outage every other day . We was told we would get a credit and you will not believe it was 2.69. WHAT A JOKE . So they sent me a text email about applying a credit and get this they never applied it until I called today about and all I got was I’m apologize for the credit not being applied from two statements. I had to pay extra money for services had to buy outside of my spectrum services, because I still had to work and couldn’t because of spectrum outage. I told them I need a full month credit. They only came up with 114.01 for services that was out over 4 weeks. All this money I pay, what a shame. Im leaving this company for good . Customer sucks, management is terrible, and the value of the customer is a joke. I requested a month of services because it’s justified based on my experience, how long I’ve been with this company, and all these outages. I think The FCC need to look at this Practices and the amount we paying for services not rendered . That’s next up . Run from Spectrum it’s not worth your money!

By far the worst customer service company I've ever dealt with. It's unfortunate the few places I've lived only offer their service for internet. Every time I have to deal with them something goes wrong and a technician has to be sent to my address 3 - 5 days later. If you have any other options I would recommend going elsewhere.

At the end of our initial promotional rate, TWC voluntarily sent a letter requesting us to remain with them until Feb. next year by offering us a new and acceptable promo rate. After one month they jacked our bill up by one third more. I spent over two hours on the phone with their "customer no-service" agents and no one could explain the increase or even correct the issue. I was promised a call from complaint escalations but I never received that call...... Avoid TWC at all costs! There is no customer support with the ability to do anything but sell you more products. When you call they will try to wear you down into submission and even try to blame you for any false charges. They have not learned anything about providing better customer service, even after the Comcast/TWC merge was denied based on their poor track record. It's like buying a new shiny car that the dealer refuses to warranty....and charges you more than you agreed on! If they haven't taken you yet as a customer, they will. So watch out!

I have been with Time Warner on and off for over 10 years. They constantly raise the price every few months. I used to have all my services via TW but have cut or reduced them one by one until I'm now down to basic internet. And now they've raised that price by $10. For my location they are really my only dependable option so I'm stuck.
